Conus Magus

Conus Magus has been created within a Kinitiras studio residency in 2017. It is about the development of the artistic research between the musician Dimitris Barnias and choreographer Nefeli Gioti.

Inspired by cellular automata and specifically from John Horton Conway's  Game of Life, a mathematical model approaching the concept of randomness in a system governed by simple rules.

We tried to find our own rules by creating together a world where movement and music are in direct communication and co-creation so as to approach a degree of freedom and complexity in the same time. Starting from a desire to  negotiate the concept of time, temporal fragments and by integrating the art of photography, we explore the linearity, circularity, continuity and discontinuity of time and space in which we move.
