Artistic Research
in collaboration with Elena Novakovits
Bread Jobs
A Movement to Hold” Festival 2024 (Uppsala)
SITE/SPECIFIC FESTIVAL 2025 (Stockholm)
Elena Novakovits and Nefeli Gioti initiated this research project during their one-month artistic residency at Köttinspektionen (Uppsala) in 2024. Since then, they have continued to develop their research through public presentations, residencies, and workshops.

This project invites professionals from the field of dance
of divergent generations, positions, and geopolitical contexts to contribute to a short questionnaire about the side jobs they have undertaken to sustain themselves at different stages of their career in the performing arts field. It proposes a curatorial framework to map the urgencies and to pose questions on the project-based economy and the precarious working and living conditions that are prevalent in the projectariat figure.
By collecting individual narrations as a second stage, Elena and Nefeli intend to capture in the format of a publication the collected material, boost the discourse, and enact a collective, free-access, public archive as a tactic of a sufficient record of a multiplicity of voices, situated knowledge, embodied and subjective experiences.
In addition, Elena and Nefeli are developing a workshop format where local practitioners are invited to discuss,
participate in the research and think together on the issue of working conditions within the field of dance and choreography.
